Mortgages for Ontario medical technologists
Medical laboratory technologists, medical radiation technologists and sonographers in Ontario hospitals sit in the professional or paramedical unit, most often OPSEU, on a schedule bargained at each hospital. For this group the gap between base pay and real pay is mostly on-call and standby, and it is the part most often left off an application.
Who bargains this job
Hospital lab and imaging staff are usually in the OPSEU paramedical or professional unit. Community labs and private imaging clinics have their own agreements or none at all. Each hospital bargains its own schedule.
We have not published a pay grid for this role yet, so there is no figure on this page. We will not print a number we have not read in the agreement itself. Tell us where you work and we will read that agreement next.
What a lab, imaging and sonography wage buys
An estimate, not an approval. Send it over and we will confirm it against your own stubs.

On-call and standby are where the money is
Departments that run around the clock pay standby by the hour and callback at a premium with a guaranteed minimum. Over a year it is a large, regular part of income, and it is contractual rather than discretionary. It belongs on the file with the article that defines it.
Callback minimums are documented, not estimated
Most agreements guarantee a minimum number of hours whenever you are called in. That makes the income far more predictable than an average of a variable line suggests, which is worth showing a lender explicitly.
Certification premiums stack
Additional modalities or certifications usually carry their own premium in the schedule. If the application was built off a base classification rate, the figure is low by the value of every certification you hold.
Agency and cross-hospital shifts
Picking up shifts at a second hospital or through an agency is common and countable, with the same two-year history test as any variable income.

Lab, imaging and sonography mortgage questions
Usually yes, with history. It is contractual rather than discretionary, which helps, and two years of T4s showing it as a consistent part of your income is what makes a lender use it.
They should. Premiums for additional modalities are set in the schedule and are part of your regular pay, so the article defining them plus stubs showing them is enough for most lenders.
