Mortgages for Ontario corrections officers
Ontario correctional officers are paid on the provincial grid set out in the central agreement, with shift, weekend and overtime premiums on top. The grid is published, which makes the base easy to prove and the premiums the part worth documenting.
How your pay lands on a mortgage file
Corrections work sits in the same blind spot as the rest of the frontline: a published, verifiable grid, and a set of premium and overtime lines that never make it onto the application. The base rate is the easy half.
The provincial grid is published
Correctional officers in provincial institutions are covered by a central agreement whose salary schedule is filed and public. That makes your base pay straightforward to establish, with a document a lender can read.
Shift work generates premium income
Evening, night and weekend premiums are contractual, with rates set out in the agreement. Over a year they are a material part of income and they belong on the file.
Overtime needs two years behind it
The usual test is two years of T4s, averaged. Where overtime is consistent, that average holds up well. Where a single exceptional year is doing the work, expect it to be discounted.
Fixed-term and unclassified positions need care
If your appointment is not permanent classified, say so early. It changes which lenders will look at the file and how the employment letter needs to read, and it is much easier to handle at the start than in the middle.

It can, and it is often missed because on many stubs the premium sits inside the regular wage line rather than showing separately. Naming it from the central agreement is what turns it from an unexplained amount into countable income.
Yes, and the file needs different handling. Fewer lenders will treat a fixed-term appointment the way they treat a permanent one, so the employment letter, the history in the role and the renewal pattern all carry more weight.
From the filed central agreement covering correctional institutions, read directly rather than taken from any salary website. The grid page names the document and the date a person checked it.
